(3/16/08) 9:30 PM: 64 out of 65 NCAA teams (98.5%), 30 out of 32 NIT teams (93.8%). Not bad. If I can get more than 50% of the CBI right I'll be happy... it seems a lot of teams are unwilling to take on financial commitments associated with participation so there will be many unpredictable teams likely being reached for. Will post the official NIT bracket on here whenever it's published.

8:18 pm Alabama back into CBI, Valparaiso out. If Alabama rejects the CBI bid as suspected then consider Valpo as my last CBI team.

8:00 pm IUPUI out of NIT into CBI, Akron up to NIT.

6:40 64 out of 65 NCAA teams as we miss Villanova for Virginia Tech. Final"ish" NIT bracket now up, changes still possible until 9 PM selection show on ESPN2 and will be noted above.

5:41: Bracket updated. Illinois St., Villanova and Ohio St. finish as the last 3 teams out of the NCAAs. Oregon and Virginia Tech are the last 2 in.

5:32 pm: Georgia (SEC) into NCAAs, Illinois St. down to NIT. Akron down to CBI, Rider out of CBI.

5:13 pm: Georgia is up on Arkansas by 3 now with a few minutes left. If they win, Illinois St. will be knocked out of the NCAA field and into the NIT. Had some questions about why I took BAMA out of the CBI... I've seen mention of a radio interview where the NIT committee head said they wouldn't receive a bid, and hearsay of them turning down any potential CBI bid. Not sure about this, but for now i consider them deserving of a CBI bid but not taking it.

1:26 pm: Alabama out of CBI, Rider into CBI.

St. Joe's is in the NCAAs largely because of their recent success against Xavier, taking Ohio St.'s place. My last five in the NCAA tournament (safest to least safe) are Baylor, Saint Joseph's, Illinois St., Oregon, and Virginia Tech. My last seven out (closest to furthest): Ohio St., Arizona St., Villanova, New Mexico, Dayton, UMass, Florida. I don't think any other teams have a real shot at an at large bid, and the teams I have in that I didn't mention I consider a lock. Georgia and Illinois can take one or two of these final at large spots out of the equation by completing unlikely runs in the SEC and Big 10 tourneys. Updates coming throughout the day tomorrow... Bracket now up.

Conference tourney championship upsets have cost a lot of NIT bids, as losing 1 seeds have now eaten up a total of 7 bids. This knocks an extra 4 teams out of the tournament who did nothing to deserve such an unfortunate fate.
